Email Tips

April 10th, 2009

Here are a few tips and ideas for crafting your email to “the people that matter” in college football. (We fans matter, too, but the BCS doesn’t act like we do because they continually refuse to implement a playoff system.)

Include your home city & state

The politicians to whom your email will be sent will all pay more attention if they see that you live within their constituent base. If you don’t live in the same state as where your favorite team is located, try sending individual emails to your state representatives or mentioning your connections to the state where your favorite team is located.

Mention support for H.R. 599

Congressman Gary Miller has introduced H.R. 599, which is a simple and straightforward idea to see a playoff implemented in college football, without having the government interfere more than they should.

  • Prohibits receipt of Federal funds by any school with a football team that participates in NCAA Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision unless the national championship game is the culmination of a playoff system
  • It is the responsibility of the 120 FBS schools to develop and implement the playoffs
  • There are no restrictions from incorporating existing bowl games into playoffs or a national championship. Nor are there restrictions from non-playoff teams playing in non-playoff postseason bowl games

Be polite, but firm

Let these leaders and elected officials know exactly how you feel, in no uncertain terms, but do it with class. Your words carry more weight this way. Let your passion for college football show through your words.

Say thank you

There are many pro-playoffs individuals among the officials in our database. If you know they are one of the “good guys”, tell them you appreciate their support and to keep up the good work.
