Will Mountain West Conference propose playoff system?
First of all, kudos to the Mountain West Conference for standing up for itself. Dennis Dodd reports the MWC has not signed the new BCS tv contract with ESPN.
In a stunning announcement, [Mountain West Conference Commissioner] Thompson also said his league had not signed the next BCS television deal with ESPN that runs from 2010-13. A formal agreement with the other leagues was reached in November. A source said the other 10 leagues have either signed the agreement or will sign it.
The Mountain West will be sending some sort of proposal to BCS commissioners in the next few weeks, details of which aren’t yet available. Will the proposal include playoffs or simply an automatic BCS berth for the MWC champion?
Also interesting, the MWC has hired a DC lobbying firm. Finally, the little guys are doing what they should have done years ago and appear to be working the system for equal access.
